FOOTBALL – Last night´s game was hit or miss for Spain during the last group match of the European Championship. They had to win to guarantee their spot in the final 16 of the knockout stages. That is just what they did – Spain crushed Slovakia with a 0-5 win in Seville.
Before the game, it was an emotional moment for midfielder Busquets. He was able to rejoin his team for the first time after a corona infection. On Wednesday, he was drafted back into the starting lineup for the first time by coach Luis Enrique.
Spain immediately dominant but opportunities are not used
Spain immediately started off the dominant side, but although opportunities were created, they did not lead to early goals. However, following a foul by Slovakia on Koke, Dutch referee Kuipers pointed to the penalty spot for Spain. Spain had their first chance at a goal, but as with Moreno who previously missed a penalty, Morata also missed in this game.

Spain’s continued to look impressive, but the opportunities remained untapped. Then, a shot came from Spain that reached the bar. The Slovakian keeper tried to tap the ball over his goal, it ended up in his own goal. Spain took the lead 0-1.
Spain gets a taste
Just before half time, Spain won a corner and after sloppy defense by Slovakia. The ball ended up in the goal from the head of Spanish defender Laporte. The first half ended by Spain being 0-2.
In the second half, with some pressure off, Spain were in their element. The confidence in the side was immense. They were showing their skills and how football should be played. Each time, Spain built up the attack nicely, passed the ball well and had some brilliant crosses. The match ended as Spain crushed Slovakia by winning 0-5 with beautiful goals from Sarabia, Torres and finally an own goal by Slovakia.
Spanish team now in the last sixteen at European Championship
Spain has been able to rebuild some self-confidence with this victory. This was noticeable in the players, the coach and the audience. The Spanish team now join the last sixteen countries that compete for the Euro2020 title.
Football analyst Rafael van der Vaart, who has been under fire in Spain for a few days, made himself heard after Spain’s victory. He tweeted: “Looks like my words worked as motivation for @SeFutbol. Good game tonight, congrats on reaching the knockouts”.
When and against whom will Spain play in the eighth final?
Spain must leave Seville and travel to Copenhagen to play against Croatia on June 28 at 6pm. The winner of this match qualifies directly for the quarterfinals to be played on July 2. Should Spain win, Luis Enrique’s team will face the winner of the match between France and Switzerland.
