RENFE starts the Avlo promotional campaign for summer 2021 with a low fare of €5. The special price tickets are available online until February 14th, for use from June 23rd.
The low-cost Avlo train will start with four daily train services in both directions between Madrid and Barcelona. The frequency will increase according to demand. The train stops en-route at Guadalajara, Calatayud, Zaragoza, Lleida, Tarragona, Gerona, and Figueres.
Renfe’s campaign shows confidence in the vaccination programme with the expectations that travel will be allowed across the country in the summer.
Second attempt to launch Avlo
Avlo is Renfe’s low-cost high-speed train. Launched in spring 2020 to strengthen Renfe’s competitive position, the pandemic seriously affected its take up. Initially, Renfe will use the Talgo-112 trains that can seat 438 passengers.
The railway company has ensured that all AVE and AVLO train devices are more than sufficiently certified regarding health, disinfection, and cleaning. High-speed train traffic resumes this year, Avlo will be competing with Ouigo, the low-cost high-speed train from SNCF.
Avlo tickets for the special rate of €5 can be ordered from today on www.avlorenfe.com. The tickets allow for travel between 23rd June and 11th December 2021. From 1st to 14th February, tickets will be available at www.renfe.com. Train tickets purchased during the promotional campaign last year can be exchanged free of charge for 2021 tickets.
In January last year, the campaign was very successful, selling all 10,000 available promotional tickets. After February 14th, a ticket costs between €10 and €60 euros, depending on the demand and time of the trip. Children under the age of 14 always travel for €5.
The French Ouigo timetable is scheduled to start on May 10th on the Madrid-Barcelona route, with an initial five trains a day in both directions. Ouigo sold their first 10,000 tickets for a promotional price of €1. Ouigo’s basic fare will be €9 per trip, between May 10th and December 11th. Children between the ages of 4 and 13 travel for €5, children under four travel for free.
